About Home EQ

Home EQ is a new service to help employees assess their home energy usage and take action to reduce it, using suitable short and long term measures. There are potential benefits for the company around sustainability, cost of living, employee wellbeing and WFH related carbon emissions. The Home EQ team and partners comprise a group of experts and practitioners in technology, sustainability, finance and home energy efficiency.

When most people decide to talk action to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, they often encounter the same three problems:

  • Not knowing what interventions will be suitable and most effective for their homes

  • Not knowing where to find the right provider to get the work done

  • Not having funds to pay for the capital investment for the more significant home improvements

The Home EQ platform helps employees to identify and implement a range of energy efficiency interventions. The platform integrates the required services into a seamless journey to make this much easier for residents to solve these three problems and lower their energy bills.

This includes the upfront assessment conducted mainly through data analysis, using available data sources and a simple questionnaire to analyse how people use their home. This leads to the provision of low cost energy saving tools and resources, connection to high quality contractors to perform energy efficiency upgrades and installations, and the provision of financing to pay for the work, where required.

The assessment will determine the most effective work to do first, to maximise the reduction in energy used for the least cost. This will typically be a combination of lifestyle support (e.g. lower boiler flow rate), low cost resources (e.g. radiator panels, LEDs) and digital tools like smart apps and thermostats. Some options will be more suitable for renters than others. Once energy demand has been reduced, homeowners and landlords can go further with the most suitable low carbon technologies, for example solar PV, batteries, heat pumps, HVACs, or heat storage.

The Home EQ platform also calculates energy utilisation and carbon emissions. This includes the proportion that can be allocated to working from home. The platform tracks and reports this over time, including realised reductions. Therefore Home EQ is a valuable tool in enhancing employee wellbeing while reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions.
